Grand Auctions is offering for sale on 23rd May a textile wall panel designed by Henry Moore in the 1940s, only 65 of which were made. Moore was commissioned to design textiles by Zika Ascher, a Czech textile manufacturer, who had fled Gemany before the war. He also commissioned Sutherland, Picasso, Matisse and Derain.
“Despite the original price of 70 guineas, virtually no interest was shown forcing further plans for panels to be abandoned. Conversely today the panels command prices from £25,000-£30,000.” (Ascher by Norman Clare.) Moore’s Wall Panels are very rare and seldom come to the market. The image is bright, bold, large and very attractive and will be offered at a £3,000 to £5,000 estimate.
