No doubt many of you will have read about or seen the American Abstract Expressionists’ exhibition at the Royal Academy. Together with Dominic Kemp, our excellent auctioneer, I went to see the RA show.
Blue Poles - Jackson Pollock
I have to say I was very disappointed with most of what I saw. The Americans give no acknowledgement to the Cobra movement from whom their ideas were derived. The undoubted star of the exhibition was Jackson Pollock, whose huge painting, Blue Poles was absolutely stunning. There were one or two other examples of excellent Pollock pictures.
