Scott, Henry 1911-2005 British A British Merchantman making sail with Tugs standing by with Tower Bridge open beyond, London 14 x 20 ins., (35.5 x 51 cms.), Signed, very well framed. The flag is a British merchant flag, known as The Red Duster to the crew. There is excellent provenance for this fine painting by Henry Scott. The vendor wrote, 'My brother Terry and his partner lived for many years in Hainault Road, Leytonstone, opposite lived Henry Scott (known to us all as Harry) and his wife. They became firm friends, and on one occasion Harry related that a member of his family had worked in the docks in East London and had unfortunately drowned. My brother asked him if he would like to visit the docks, which hew did on a couple of occasions and compared modern day London to the past, when the docks were thriving. Unknown to my brother, Harry painted the picture for him, which we have for sale. The picture was painted between 1986 and 1988. I met Harry on a number of occasions, and he showed me his 'work in progress' on the painting. My brother bequeathed the painting to me.'
