Militaria: A rare gold military badge of The Order of the Dooranie Empire, circa 1839. Modelled in high carat yellow gold with an eight pointed Maltese cross combined with crossed swords surmounted by a foliate decorated suspension ring, the convex centre inscribed with Persian script reading 'dui-I-dauran' meaning 'pearl of the age' applied against a blue and green enamelled cloisonné ground enclosed by a ring of sixteen natural pearls. The Order of the Dooranie (Durrani / Dooranee) Empire was instituted by the Shah of Afghanistan in 1839 and conferred as a reward to British officers for services to Afghanistan. Presented in a fitted box, probably original. 2.2 in (5.6 cm) width. Weight: 35.1 grams. Tests high carat.
