Maritime: A carved scrimshaw vesta case, 19th century. Carved from walrus tusk and modelled as a clenched fist clutching the stock of an anchor forming a suspension ring. The sleeve is engraved in shallow relief with an anchor and inscribed 'Aw WEST MAGNET R.I' with a rectangular match striker incorporated to the reverse. The cover is carved from horn with a turned bone button handle. Historically there have been ten Royal Navy ships bearing the name HMS Magnet with the first being launched in 1807. 3.3 in (8.5 cm) length.
