Mané-Katz, Emmanuel 1894-1962 Ukranian/Israeli, Viewing the Boats in Harbour. 20 x 24 ins., (51 x 61 cms.), Oil on Canvas, Signed. Mané-Katz was destined to be a Rabbi according to his father. Instead Mané-Katz aged 19 went to study art in Paris, then the centre of the art world, where he became friends with Picasso and other leading artists. He became a part of the Jewish School of Paris. From 1928 he made many trips to Israel claiming that Paris was his artistic home, but Israel was his spiritual home. He gave most of his art paintings and sculptures to the town of Haifa in Israel, where his works were given a special home on Mont Carmel, the Mané-Katz Museum.
