Janina Baranowska b1934 Polish/British AR, Reading
Janina Baranowska b1934 Polish/British AR, Reading. 24 x 30 ins., (51 x 76 cms.), Oil on Canvas, Signed, Signed and Titled verso. Patricia Rogers wrote the following after visiting the Graves Gallery Polish artists exhibition in Sheffield, '..... there is a haunting, expressive quality which is visible everywhere. These artists have known what it is like to suffer and be displaced, and this pain is freely and boldly translated onto the canvases, which is very moving. This is sadness expressed with confidence and vitality - an unusual juxtaposition. I felt the work was was every bit as good as much better known British painters who were working at the same time.' Sadly this gentle tribute to Baranowska and her colleagues sums up the values put on art by the movers and shakers of the art market. Baranowska is an interesting and very capable artist. Recently she enjoyed a very successful retrospective exhibition at the POSK Gallery in 2015, where her work sold for good prices. She has done a great deal of work for Polish artists in the UK.
