Denis Compton cricket memorabilia: A silver compact decorated with machine turned patterns to the exterior and engraved to the interior with the words 'Pat from Doris & Denis Compton 8.9.49', mark of Padgett & Braham Ltd., London 1948. Included is Denis Compton's 1953 Annual published by Stanley Paul and Co. Ltd. and a souvenir programme from The Denis Compton Ball at The Empress Hall dated September 30th, 1949. (3 items) Compact: 2.8 in (7.1 cm) x 2.7 in (6.9 cm). Denis Charles Scott Compton CBE (1918 - 1997) was a renowned England Team cricketer who remained at the top of his profession for twenty years and in addition became an accomplished footballer playing predominantly for Arsenal Football Club and England on the left wing. Compton is still regarded as being one of England cricket's greatest batsmen of all time being one of only seventeen players to have scored over one hundred centuries in first class cricket with his highest score being a fantastic two hundred and seventy eight runs for England v Pakistan in 1954. Although Denis Compton passed away in 1997 his name lives on through The Dennis Compton Oval in Hertfordshire and the Compton Stand at Lord's Cricket Ground.
