Bratby, John Randall 1928-1992 British AR, Diane Seated
Bratby, John Randall 1928-1992 British AR, Diane Seated. 48 x 36 ins., (122 x 91.5 cms.), Oil on Canvas. Bratby was intoxicated by a young art student, Diane Hills, which freed him from the tonal restraints of Sickert, or so he thought. He produced a number of very colourful paintings in the seventies, which according to him 'were painted with love'. He continued to paint with bright colours for the rest of his life, though he admitted to me that he could not beat Sickert, his tonal disciplines were really the same as always, just brighter.
