Aquaroni, Anthony Nineteenth Century Italian, Etchings of Rome
Aquaroni, Anthony Nineteenth Century Italian, Etchings of Rome. Approximate plate dimensions 5.75 x 7.5 ins., (14.5 x 19.1 cms.), Comprising c. 93 engravings of sites in Rome including an engraved seal which reads a follows, ''The immense number of views of Rome are most of them copied from each other, consequently very unlike the monuments they are intended to represent. The present work engraved this size by Anthony Aquaroni in outline was originally drawn by himself from the originals and may serve as a book of reminiscences of the above mentioned city. All the prints found without this seal are false.'' What a remarkable entry to a book, the writers technique reminds me of the famous estate agent who used to describe his properties in most scathing terms, but sold them very well.
