A Victorian silver heart perfume bottle. Of heart shaped form, the hinged cover engraved 'From Prince & Princess Edward Of Saxe-Weimar', the bottle neoclassically decorated with cherubs amongst scrolling foliage, mark of William Comyns & Sons, London 1898. 3.3 in (8.4 cm) length. Weight: 81 grams. Provenance: Prince William Augustus Edward Saxe-Weimar (1823 - 1902) was a British military officer of German decent becoming General Officer commanding Southern District in 1878 and Commander in Chief of Ireland in 1885 finally being promoted to Field Marshall in 1897. Notably Prince Saxe-Weimar saw action at The Battle of Inkerman during the Crimean War. He morganatically married Lady Augusta Katherine Gordon-Lennox (1827 - 1094) in 1851 who was created Countess of Dornburg by the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar a day before their wedding.
