A rare Austrian set of six silver gilt and enamelled salts, Viennese, late 19th century
A rare Austrian set of six silver gilt and enamelled salts, Viennese, late 19th century. Of circular, bulbous cauldron shaped form and supported on circular spread pedestal feet with rope twist borders, the exteriors of each salt being finely enamel painted with panels depicting Classical figural scenes partitioned by gilt foliate and beaded decoration against a pink, lilac and cranberry ground beneath gilt beaded rims with each interior painted depicting rural landscapes with castles. Mark of Ludwig Politzer, Vienna, circa 1890. 1.8 in (4.5 cm) diameter, 1.3 in (3.3 cm) height. Weight: 211 grams.
