Description:

A pair of Meissen style figures of a shepherdess and her companion. Late 19th century. Both are hand painted with gilt highlights and decorated with lacework details with applied roses to the shepherdess. The shepherdess is modelled with a bird cage on one shoulder and clutching a letter in her left hand with a recumbent lamb at her feet. The shepherd is holding a homing pigeon and a love letter with a standing lamb at his feet. Both stand on circular gilt Greek key pattern bases and bear the underglaze blue crossed swords mark of Meissen with F.73 incised and 43 and 122 impressed beneath. Possibly manufactured in Dresden. 7.2 in (18.2 cm) height and 7.7 in (19.5 cm) height. (2)
