Description:

A Malay or Sumatran ceremonial kris dagger, the blade gilt inlaid with decoration depicting Hanuman the monkey king, Malaysia or Indonesia, early 20th century or earlier. With a carved wood hilt, the scabbard's sandalwood top section formed as a boat's keel (wrangka) and the body clad in gilt metal, profusely decorated in repousse to one side depicting birds amongst scrolling floral decoration set with faceted glass stones. The double edged blade is considerably older, forged with a black and silver coloured gently undulating pamor welded pattern and decorated depicting Hunuman the monkey king crouching in a praying position with gilt inlaid highlights. 21 in (53.3 cm) total length. 14.7 in (37.3 cm) length of blade.
