A collection of Victorian Penny Red envelopes and letters

A collection of Victorian Penny Red envelopes and letters. Comprising of an envelope with a group of four Penny Reds, dated 1863, two envelopes both with Penny Reds, dated 1846 and 1868, a letter stamped with a Maltese Cross Stamped Penny Red, dated 1842, a letter with a group of two penny reds, dated 1845, a letter with a Penny Red, dated 1853 together with an interesting hand written letter to the Reverend John Heelis of Appleby Castle, Westmorland, Thanet, the Earl of Thanet's land steward and agent. The letter reads as follows: Hothfield 16th Sept. 1832, - Sir, I have received your letter and I find upon consulting my steward here that we can find room for one hundred Bullocks, therefore you will have the goodness to purchase and select with your usual judgement that number and send on according to custom. I am glad to hear John Barham is going on well in his ? and I should presume he is likely to be successful in his views for I do not hear of his being opposed or objected to by any old friends of the Party and as for the Lowthers, it is to be hoped their reign is nearly at an end and that the County will at length wipe out the stain of being for ever under their boroughmongering domination. Yours Hr. Servant, Thanet. (7 items)
