Description:

A Chinese robin's egg glazed and gilt decorated porcelain figure of Buddha, Qianlong/Jiaqing period (circa 1736 - 1820). The gilt Buddha is depicted seated in dhyana sana wearing a robin's egg glazed long flowing robe with a beaded necklace and bracelets to both the wrists and ankles glazed in dark blue and emerald green. The Buddha's hands are placed in dhyana mudra holding a spherical gilt pearl and is seated on a robin's egg glazed octagonal plinth modelled as swirling clouds incorporating gilt dragons heads emerging in pursuit of a central flaming pearl. Both the reverse and underside bear a circular aperture. 15.9 in (40.3 cm) height, 11 in (28 cm) width, in 7.9 in (20 cm) depth. Provenance: Property of the late Lieutenant Colonel J.E. Armstrong from the collection at Drumnigh House.
