A Chinese jade Archaistic openwork plaque
A Chinese jade Archaistic openwork plaque. Elaborately carved in the form of a bi disc, the central aperture enclosed by an inner band of finely carved spiralling furrows in shallow relief joined at three equidistant points to a surrounding outer band with openwork depicting scrolling phoenixes with the inner and outer edges carved with concentric ridges. Mounted above this in pierced openwork are scrolling dragons amongst clouds with incised decoration. The stone is of a yellowish white tone with some russet coloured surface residue. Comes together with a fitted box. 9.6 in (24.5 cm) height.
