A Chinese dark blue ground finely embroidered silk robe. Late 19th/early 20th century. Front split and woven with roundels embroidered in coloured silks and gilt metal thread work depicting floral patterns, foliage and double gourds. Beneath are crashing waves with various gilt woven symbols including endless knots, stone chimes and halberds, bells and fish with a multicoloured striped border to the hem, cuffs and neck. 46.8 in (118.9 in) length.
