A cast iron plaque of Queen Elizabeth I acquired from the HMS Elizabeth I battleship
A cast iron plaque of Queen Elizabeth I acquired from the HMS Elizabeth I battleship. The cast iron plaque is molded in relief depicting Queen Elizabeth I seated on the throne holding the orb and sceptre. This plaque was originally attached to a cap covering one of the barrels of the BL 15 inch MK I guns. Dimensions: 8.2 in (20.9 cm) width, 11.5 in (29.2 cm) height. History: The H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth I was the leading ship of the Queen Elizabeth class of dreadnought battleships which saw service in both WWI and WWII. She was armed with eight BL 15 inch MK I guns which were generally considered as being the most efficient heavy gun ever developed by the Royal Navy and was deployed on capital ships from 1915 through to 1959. Provenance: This plaque was acquired by Mr. Arthur Stacey from the time of H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth I's decommission in 1948.
