A 19th century rhinoceros horn carved tobacco jar & cover. Carved entirely from rhinoceros horn, fully worked and modelled in rectangular form with rounded corners and tapering sides, the oval cover engraved with an inscription reading 'Rhinoceros, Settite River, Soudan, 1875 - 1876. R.V.' Dimensions: 2.6 in (6.6 cm) height, 4.6 in (11.8 cm) width, 3.9 in (9.9 cm) depth. Weight: 488 grams.
